Official Movie Synopsis
Return to the dystopian world of Panem with The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, an epic, sweeping prequel blockbuster directed by franchise veteran Francis Lawrence. Based on the novel by Suzanne Collins, the narrative chronicles one of the most pivotal, legendary, and bloodiest chapters in the nation's history: the Second Quarter Quell. Stepping back 24 years before the events of Katniss Everdeen’s story and four decades after the rise of Coriolanus Snow, this intense survival thriller explores the mechanics of authoritarian control, propaganda, and propaganda's psychological toll on the oppressed districts.
The story unfolds on the morning of the reaping for the 50th annual Hunger Games. To mark the grand golden anniversary of the Capitol's victory over the rebellion, the sinister President Snow unveils a sadistic twist for the Second Quarter Quell: every district must reap twice the usual number of tributes, forcing a massive, unprecedented pool of 48 children to enter the arena. Among them is Haymitch Abernathy, a sharp-witted, fiercely independent, and rebellious young man from the fringes of District 12. Thrust into a meticulously designed, beautiful yet hyper-lethal arena alongside three fellow District 12 tributes, Haymitch is forced to rely on his raw wits and strategic intellect to survive.

As the games begin, the massive roster of contestants whittles away in a series of shocking, brutal confrontations. Outside the arena, the political machinations of the Capitol tighten, showcasing a society entirely obsessed with turning human tragedy into a glittering theatrical spectacle. Featuring an incredible, star-studded ensemble cast that includes Ralph Fiennes, Jesse Plemons, and Kieran Culkin, the film dives deep into the psychological warfare behind the games, documenting the harrowing journey that forged a broken mentor and ignited the fragile, early sparks of a future revolution.
