Noah Movie Trailer Reaction

When word spread that Darren Aronofsky would follow up his Academy Award winning film Black Swan with the biblical tale of Noah, a few eyebrows were raised.

Aronofsky has carved out a career as a director of intimate character pieces. The story of Noah seems like the polar opposite of a independent film. The story presumably relies on spectacular special effects and visuals of…well…biblical proportions.

There is method to this madness however, considering how fascinating the story of Noah and his famous ark is. Not to mention the story is featured in all three major religions. Considering the success of The Passion of the Christ, the idea doesn’t seem to be so financially risky.

Things start to get complicated however, when one tries to grasp the practicality of it all.

Creating an ark to house two of every animal and producing an apocalyptic, planet drowning, flood is a bit of a cinematic challenge to say the least.

Our first look at the film in this trailer gives us mixed results. Some of the footage looks impressive, while other bits obviously relies too heavily on CGI

It will be interesting to see how audiences respond to the film. The content can be a bit too religious for mainstream audiences. There is no getting around that. A wrathful God punishing arrogant, lustful, sinners and sparing the humble Noah and his religious family, is the epitome of a morality tale. But of course that’s probably what industry experts felt about The Passion of The Christ.

We all saw how that played out.

Noah stars Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Ray Winstone. The film is written and directed by Darren Aronofsky. Noah is scheduled for release March 28, 2014.

Official Synopsis:

Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe stars as Noah, a man chosen by God for a great task before an apocalyptic flood destroys the world.

Robocop 2014 Movie Trailer Reaction

The original Robocop was a quirky, eccentric take on the cop/vigilante film genre, but with a science fiction spin. It was also the first mainstream Hollywood film from Dutch director Paul Verhoeven. The film featured many of his own unique touches and independent/foreign film sensibilities. Many people credit Verhoeven’s anti-Hollywood view for the success of the seemingly formulaic project. So when it was announced that a new version of Robocop was in production, it was met with some skepticism.

Do audiences really want a Hollywood blockbuster take on a story about a cop that is turned into a robot?

That is left to be seen. But what is exciting about this production is the outstanding cast that director Jose Padiha has assembled. With Michael Keaton, Gary Oldman, and Samuel L. Jackson we can expect some acting fireworks. Not only that, but the film stars the affable Joel Kinnaman of The Killing fame, in the title role. It’s great to see a talented performer like him get work in a high profile project like this.

So how’s the trailer? Well it feels ambitious, and it obviously wants to be cutting edge…but in all honesty it feels very Hollywood. At least to me.

We’ll just have to wait and see what the final product reveals.

Robocop stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Samuel L. Jackson. The film is directed by Jose Padiha. Robocop is scheduled for release February 7, 2014.

Official Synopsis:

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Trailer Reaction

Wow! Did anybody expect this?

There has been rumblings about how Guardians of the Galaxy would be a unique entry into the Marvel Universe of films. Some audience members took this as something troubling. We’ve gotten a taste of the style of the film from the mid-credits stinger in Thor The Dark World. To be honest, the short clip didn’t inspire much hope.

But the first trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy hints at something potentially really special. The trailer plays out as a fan-boy fantasy come to life with sci-fi, witty humor, an all-star cast, stunning special effects, comic book flair and just an incredible quirky energy all to the score of B.J. Thomas’s 1968 hit “Hooked on a Feeling.”

Super cool.

Even though I’m not familiar with the comic book franchise, I can’t wait for August 1, 2014 to arrive. It seems our fears of the unfamiliar were unwarranted and we can expect the usual solid story telling and action adventure from Marvel Studios.

Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista,Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou,John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Benicio del Toro. It is directed by James Gunn and is scheduled for release August 1, 2014.

Official Synopsis:

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which first appeared in comic books in Marvel Super-Heroes, Issue #18 (Jan. 1969), stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, with John C.
