Official Movie Synopsis

From Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Tony Gilroy comes Behemoth!, a sprawling, deeply moving musical drama and compelling character study that explores the restorative, all-consuming power of art. Shifting away from the high-stakes political intrigue of his previous works, Gilroy crafts an intimate, grounded narrative saturated with convincing detail about the intricate worlds of professional classical performance and modern film scoring. The film balances sharp industry satire with profound emotional depth, tracing one man's existential journey through a fluctuating timeline of memories, artistic ambition, and long-buried regrets.

The narrative centers on Alex Serian (Pedro Pascal), an exceptionally gifted, legendary cellist who decides to return home to Los Angeles after spending twenty exhausting years touring on the road. For decades, music has served as the constant, overwhelming river of Alex's life, dictating his identity, dictating his relationships, and isolating him from a stable reality. Upon his homecoming, Alex finds himself completely unmoored, struggling to reconcile his monumental public success with the sweeping emptiness of his personal life. The comfortable detachment he maintained on tour begins to shatter as he reconnects with Carol (Olivia Wilde), forcing him to confront the domestic choices and relationships he abandoned in pursuit of perfection.

As Alex attempts to anchor himself back into the local Los Angeles music scene, his journey transitions into an unexpected creative adventure that changes the course of his artistic legacy forever. Pulled into the hyper-competitive, high-pressure world of studio recording sessions, he must navigate an eccentric ensemble of collaborators, industry cynics, and competitive peers. Striking an exquisite balance between technical authenticity and rich human drama, Behemoth! delivers a gorgeous, self-reflexive examination of creative obsession, aging, and the ultimate sacrifices required to achieve true artistic transcendence.
