Official Movie Synopsis
From LAIKA Entertainment, the visionary stop-motion studio behind Coraline, comes Wildwood, a handcrafted epic fantasy adventure directed by Travis Knight. Adapted by screenwriter Chris Butler, this highly ambitious animated masterpiece presents a bold fusion of human-crafted artistry and sweeping cinematic storytelling. Breaking new ground for the medium, the film trades automation for tactile perfection, delivering a generational epic on an expansive canvas never before seen in stop-motion animation.
The narrative unfolds on the edge of Portland, Oregon, following Prue McKeel (Peyton Elizabeth Lee), an ordinary girl whose life is turned upside down when her infant brother is suddenly abducted by a murder of crows. The birds carry the baby deep into the Impassable Wilderness, a forbidden, overgrown forest that locals dare not enter. Refusing to leave her brother behind, Prue launches a desperate rescue mission. She is unexpectedly joined by her eccentric classmate, Curtis (Jacob Tremblay), stepping past the borders of reality and trespassing into a secret, dangerously alive kingdom.
Once inside, the duo discovers that the woods hide a complex, warring hidden realm caught in the grips of an escalating civil war. To navigate their way home, Prue and Curtis must cross paths with an array of enchanted creatures, endearing allies, and formidable adversaries—including a ruthless monarch, Alexandra (Carey Mulligan), a charismatic rebel leader, Brendan (Mahershala Ali), and a rigid military force led by The General (Angela Bassett). Striking a masterful balance between intimate, emotionally mature themes of grief and large-scale fantasy spectacle, Wildwood chronicles an unforgettable quest where a young girl's courage becomes the final defense for a magical ecosystem hanging in the balance.
