Official Movie Synopsis
Marking his highly anticipated return to English-language cinema for the first time since 2013's Wrong Cops, visionary French filmmaker Quentin Dupieux delivers Full Phil, a riotous, mind-bending, and fiercely original absurdist comedy. Shifting away from standard Hollywood family dramas, the narrative takes a gonzo approach to the classic story of familial reconciliation. Seamlessly blending deadpan existential madness with sharp, satirical commentary on wealth and isolation, the film weaponizes the meta public perceptions of its powerhouse lead stars to deliver an unforgettable theatrical experience.
The plot centers on Philip Doom (Woody Harrelson), a phenomenally wealthy American who procures an ultra-exclusive, luxury Parisian hotel suite for a very specific mission: a father-daughter vacation designed to mend fences with his distant daughter, Madeleine (Kristen Stewart). Philip intends the getaway to be a grand gesture of family bonding, but the dynamic quickly fractures under the weight of deep-seated misunderstandings and contrasting worldviews. The tension escalates dramatically when a concerned hotel employee named Lucie (Charlotte Le Bon) witnesses a fierce argument between the pair. Convinced that something is deeply awry, Lucie begins aggressively monitoring their private interactions, intruding further and further into their lives as the day progresses.
What follows is a surreal, chaotic 24-hour marathon where the boundaries of a standard vacation completely dissolve. The hotel suite becomes an arena of psychological warfare marked by sickening, excessive amounts of luxury food, sudden civil unrest right outside the windows, and the presence of a bizarre, vintage 1950s horror movie that structurally bleeds into their reality. Featuring an unhinged in-universe film crew played by Emma Mackey, Tim Heidecker, and Eric Wareheim, Full Phil balances its relentless situational comedy with a poignant look at human connection. Driven by a propulsive electronic score by Siriusmo and crisp cinematography lensed by Dupieux himself, this critically acclaimed comedy chronicles a father and daughter's desperate, hilarious final attempt to make the other understand their point of view before their relationship implodes entirely.
