The eight-episode limited series reimagines Stephen King’s landmark 1974 debut novel for the modern digital age. Developed, written, and partly directed by horror auteur Mike Flanagan, the story centers on Carrie White (Summer H. Howell), a deeply introverted and socially isolated teenager. Having spent her entire childhood sheltered behind the closed doors of her home by her fanatically religious and emotionally abusive mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan), Carrie's world shifts overnight following her father’s sudden death. Thrust abruptly into the alien, hyper-critical environment of public high school under Principal Henry Grayle (Matthew Lillard), Carrie struggles to find her footing.
Instead of a smooth transition, she becomes the prime target for a vicious clique of students led by the cruel Chris Hargensen (Alison Thornton). Matters escalate exponentially when a humiliating prank goes viral online, transforming a local high school spat into a community-wide digital and social media feeding frenzy.
