The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug – Official Trailer 2013

The Hobbit The Desolution of Smaug

One of the more under-rated films of last year was The Hobbit directed by Peter Jackson. The general consensus was that it was a worthy prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but most of the publicity surrounding the film was concerning Peter Jackson’s decision to shoot and present the film at a higher frame rate. 48 frames-per-second to be exact. The effect left audiences split. With some being indifferent, while others feeling it was distracting and excessive at the ultra high definition frame rate.

Lost in the controversy was that it was actually a good movie. Unfortunately, as a result, the film wasn’t able to generate any award season buzz.

This winter the second installment to The Hobbit trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, will be released. This time the film will feature the return of Legolas. Not to mention the dragon Smaug.

From what we see in the trailer this looks to be another exciting installment in this epic story.

Hopefully, audiences will focus on the story this time, instead of the film’s frame rate.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Benedict Cumberbatch, Luke Evans Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lily, Hugo Weaving, Christopher Lee and Cate Blanchett. The film is directed by Peter Jackson. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is scheduled for release December 13, 2013.
