Do you feel the Need for Speed?
Sorry. Couldn’t resist.
Despite a wealth of racing movies throughout the history of film already out there. Which includes the successful Fast and Furious franchise, which is currently on its 7th chapter. Hollywood has decided to make another street racing film.
The difference this time is that this film is based on a successful line of racing video games.
I’ll let the reader decide if that’s a good thing or bad thing.
Also lending the project more legitimacy than a typical low budget b-movie, is the presence of an Emmy Award winning actor in Aaron Paul. A look at the trailer also reveals that this movie is aspiring for something a bit heavier than the typical video game adaptation. I dare say that it’s a bit ambitious with it’s tone.
But let’s not kid ourselves. The cars and the chases will be front and center, as it should be. The one sentence synopsis for the film should confirm that. The real question is are audiences craving another car chase film like this? Especially when there has been so many films that have covered the same subject.
We’ll have to wait and see.
Need For Speed stars Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots, Scott Mescudi, Ramon Rodriguez, Rami Malek, Dakota Johnson, Harrison Gilbertson and Michael Keaton. The film is directed by Scott Waugh. Need For Speed is scheduled for release March 14, 2014.
Framed for a crime he didn’t commit, muscle car mechanic and street racer Tobey (Aaron Paul) gets out of prison determined to settle the score with the man responsible for his false conviction.
