Are you ready for the Victory tour?
The next installment in The Hunger Games franchise arrives later this year. The film is titled The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. And the story picks up shortly after the events of the first film with Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark in the midst of a tour celebrating their victory at the 74th Hunger Games. Looking on during the proceedings are a menacing Donald Sutherland and new cast member Philip Seymour Hoffman, who are still very unhappy about having two victors from the last Hunger Games.
Needless to say, things aren’t looking good for a peaceful victory tour.
In real life, lots has changed since the first film. Most notably an Academy Award and critical kudos for actress Jennifer Lawrence. There is also the pressure and expectations of following up a hit film in a franchise. The original film carried hopes of box office success and featured a modest budget with relative unknowns in the lead. But this latest entry is now EXPECTED to deliver and deliver big. Of course this all means a bigger budget, an increase in production value and larger, more noteworthy cast. It will be interesting to see if bigger means better.
Based on this teaser trailer it looks like they are on the right track. If anything it looks like more of the same. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE is directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik.
