The Grey – 2012 Movie Trailer

I can’t think of many more things more terrifying than being hunted by a wild animal for a meal. One can’t reason with an animal that’s hungry and wants flesh for consumption. Personally, I have a hard enough time  refusing my greedy dog a treat when he wants one. I couldn’t imagine trying to turn away a hungry, starving wolf. The other scary part about potentially being attacked by a ravenous wolf is that one can almost certainly expect the death to be long and painful. After all, I imagine a wolf likes his meals fresh. I’m sure after they incapacite a victim they are likely to drag them away  to a private place to eat slowly at their own convenience. Like scary, wild animals like to do. Maybe they’d start off with a bite of one’s face, then maybe a bit of a person’s stomach, then chew on a shin bone or a person’s genitals. Just to mix it up.

So obviously, with my vivid imagination, I find this trailer to The Grey, directed by Joe Carnahan, viscerally exciting and disturbing. I like primal man vs. nature films like this. There’s plenty of potential for drama and suspense. I can’t imagine a smart phone would be much help deep in an Alaskan wilderness. Cause let’s face it, anything that a smartphone can’t solve is reasonably terrifying. The film almost looks like a mix of Cast Away and The Edge. Which I personally feel, are pretty good films to model after.

Carnahan is coming off the big budget The A-Team, so it’s refreshing that he’s tackling this character piece of man vs. nature. Personally I prefer his smaller films like Narc, over something like his testosterone filled, Smokin’ Aces.

The Grey stars Liam Neeson, Dermot Mulroney, Frank Grillo, Joe Anderson and Dallas Roberts. The film is directed by Joe Carnahan and is written by Joe Carnahan and Ian McKenzie Jeffers. The Grey is scheduled for release January 27, 2012.
