The Pirates! Band of Misfits – 2012 Movie trailer

There are few things more cool than an Aardman Animations film. I just really enjoy this type of stop motion animation. It hearkens back to the Rankin/Bass films of my youth. For me the style has a timeless feel and their humor appeals to both adults and children alike. Their latest feature film, set to premiere in 2012, is the action comedy The Pirates! Band of Misfits and judging from the trailer, it features the Aardman trademark wit that made Chicken Run and the Wallace & Gromit films so enjoyable. I’m hoping that this film will earn significant box office success, to add to the critical success that the films already enjoy. Big box office success would also allow Aardman Animations creative freedom to produce even more of their great films.  Of course having the subject matter be about Pirates pretty much ensures a good audience turnout. I mean who doesn’t like Pirates right? Much less comedic pirates voiced by Hugh Grant and David Tennant!

The Pirates! Band of Misfits stars the vocal talents of Hugh Grant, David Tennant, Imelda Staunton, Martin Freeman and Jeremy Piven. The film is directed by Peter Lord and written by Gideon Defoe. The Pirates! Band of Misfits is scheduled for release March 30, 2012.

Official Synopsis:

In The Pirates! Band of Misfits, Hugh Grant stars in his first animated role as the luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain – a boundlessly enthusiastic, if somewhat less-than-successful, terror of the High Seas. With a rag-tag crew at his side (Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen), and seemingly blind to the impossible odds stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to the much coveted Pirate Of The Year Award. It’s a quest that takes our heroes from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Along the way they battle a diabolical queen (Imelda Staunton) and team up with a haplessly smitten young scientist (David Tennant), but never lose sight of what a pirate loves best: adventure!
