Sometimes the title of the movie explains it all. Man on a Ledge would seem to be one of those movies. This trailer certainly looks intriguing, even dramatic. I imagine that if one is afraid of heights, such as myself, this scenario would seem especially thrilling. I can’t really think of a more genuinely dramatic situation as someone on the ledge of a high rise building threatening to jump. Of course…when one really breaks it down, how dramatic can this situation really be? Once a character is out on a ledge, they are either going to fall off and drop to their death or come in. Right?
I guess I really shouldn’t underestimate the premise. There have been other movies that have utilized a small, contained, setting like this and made it reasonably suspenseful, such as 2002’s Phone Booth. Man on a Ledge does feature a solid cast. So it does have that going for it. But I have to admit that a screenplay with four screenwriters listed on a project does give me pause. We’ll just have to wait and see how this all plays out.
An ex-cop and now wanted fugitive (Sam Worthington) stands on the ledge of a high-rise building while a hard-living New York Police Department negotiator (Elizabeth Banks) tries to talk him down. The longer they are on the ledge, the more she realizes that he might have an ulterior objective.
