In another sign that Awards season is just around the corner, the trailer to the highly anticipated Roman Polanski film Carnage was released recently.
Carnage is a black comedy about two sets of parents who meet one day to discuss an altercation between their two grade school children. Although initially cordial, things spiral out of control during the course of the meeting. The event prompts the revelation of their different personalities and the bubbling up to the surface of their own personal and private problems.
The film is adapted from the play God of Carnage ,which won a 2009 Olivier Award for Best New Play and also the Best Play at the 2009 Tony Awards. The film features an amazing cast. But to be honest, I’m slightly disappointed that the film didn’t feature the original Broadway performers Jeff Daniels, James Gandolfini, Hope Davis and Marcia Gay Harden. But we know how the movie industry works…and it’s hard to fault producers for assembling an amazing Academy Award winning, box office friendly cast.
Carnage stars Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, John C. Reily and Christoph Waltz. It is directed by Roman Polanski. It is based on the play “God of Carnage” written by Yasmine Riza. It is scheduled for release in the United States on December 16, 2011.
